Big Help Out 6! 14th March

Thank you to everyone who lent a hand on our sixth allotment community help-out day!  Besides assisting those in need, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some delicious homemade cakes. We definitely sampledsome fantastic cakes and soups throughout the day. We completed 15 tasks around the site, focusing on water harvesting with the generous help of plot holders, who donated water butts and lots of guttering. Some plots were a bit more challenging to fit the gutters, but we managed to do it all.

One of the highlights was transforming a plot so a plot holder who has had the plot for about 54 years could continue to use it. This involved moving around 5 tonnes of compost from a couple of plots, all dug by hand to make three raised beds . It was a true testament to the community spirit.

We also cleared obstructions from the front of several plots and relocated a tree that is now thriving in its new spot on the boundary. Please keep an eye out for the next help-out where you can get involved.

After the event, we received some wonderful feedback:

‘I cannot believe how kind you all are to me.’
‘I am so excited.’
‘I cannot tell you how much it means to me.’
‘Everyone has been so kind to me, thank you.’
‘Please say thank you to everyone.’

It’s comments like these that make help-outs all worthwhile—and the delicious cakes! Please feel free to get involved.
